A perfect song to loop as one writes. Best on a sunny day. By composer Christian Gabel who released two albums under the moniker 1900. Ethereally warm, calming. The clarinet is both doleful and joyous, like marching back from a war won at great cost, the tired soldiers overjoyed to be returning to their homes and families. They’re trying to let the joy of return and reunion rule the moment, though the nagging memories of their dead brethren can’t be overcome, even for this moment. All they want is a moment to feel relieved in victory, but their great grief has a hand on them still.

It seems my hearing of the song was not off-point. After writing the above, I ran a translation of the title. It means “The Smallest of Victories.”

The whole album is wonderful, but this is the standout track.
