“Curve” by Tim Egan (Short Film)
I saw this around the time it hit the internet, and I was wowed by the simplicity of the concept, the faithfulness to straight-forward storytelling, the beautiful performance, and the combination of Samuel Beckett’s aesthetic with the horror genre. If I were teaching a screenwriting class, this would be near the top of the syllabus (along with this film and this short book). Drop us into a world where something is happening, make things worse, and end it in a way that is both surprising and yet inevitable. The ending here is really what’s genius. There are only two ways it can end, and, in a way, it ends in both.
